The Old House has been visited by many through the ages. It was here that Jane Seymour was wooed by Henry VIII in 1535, only months before the King relieved Jane’s predecessor, Anne Boleyn, of her head. Beyond bearing the future Edward VI, the new queen fared little better; married not two years, Jane fell to a combination of dubious 16th-Century post-natal practices and, presumably, simply being married to Henry.
Today in Littlecote’s Great Hall a commemorative roundel of Cupid’s head and initialed lovers’ knots bear witness to the (briefly) happy couple. You can even relive history at one of the regular medieval banquets in the long gallery– and we promise you’ll leave with your head in tact.
