The historical records of the Gunton estate, known variously as Guntone, Guston and Gontune, bear out the fact that there was indeed a settlement here when the Vikings invaded. But this lovely part of East Anglia, geographically a natural port of call for any 9th Century seafaring Scandinavian, had to wait a few hundred years before a manor house that would do it justice would appear.
In a wooded glade on the stunning Suffolk Coastline now lies a welcoming seaside village. With a foot in each of the neighbouring counties of Norfolk and Suffolk, Gunton has 50 acres of grounds, with carefully tended walled gardens, secluded woodland and a freshwater fishing lake.
